Qualcomm taunts Apple with a list of Android firsts

Qualcomm taunts Apple with a list of Android firsts

Apple's iPhone event is what everyone is looking forward to today, but Qualcomm is set to rain on the Cupertino's company parade. It released a list of Android firsts trying to imply that Apple is playing catch up rather than leading the market lately. Qualcomm boasts about laying the foundation for so many technologies and experiences we value in our smartphones today. It mentions the Gigabit LTE, available in all Snapdragon 835 devices. Although the chipset company listed sample devices (not to be confused with pioneers or firsts), we are pretty sure the Galaxy S8 still does not have a dual camera on its back. The company lists plenty of manufacturers that it has worked closely. Names like Google, Samsung, LG, HTC, and Motorola are included, even vivo and Oppo are mentioned as two of the top five smartphone companies in the world. The press release ends with stating that partners bringing next wave of class-leading Android devices will continue to pave the way for others to come. The whole message clearly is aimed at Apple. This announcement is a heavy stone being thrown in the never-ending war of Android vs. iOS. Stay tuned for the latest episode later tonight!

New Amazon Fire TV devices leak in pictures and specs

New Amazon Fire TV devices leak in pictures and specs

Two new Fire TV devices by Amazon leaked, revealing an expansion of the streaming portfolio. A new Fire TV with an HDMI cable sticking out will arrive as a mid-range device, while a set-top box in the shape of a cube will be the high-end model by Amazon. Similar to the Chromecast by Google, the mid-tier Fire TV will support 4K HDR video, meaning the current Fire TV Stick will stay as the affordable option since it streams only in Full HD resolution. This device will have 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU and Mali-450MP graphics unit. The RAM will be 2 GB while the storage will be 8 gigs. The flagship Fire TV device should essentially combine the functionality of Fire TV and Echo Dot. It has holes on top for far-field microphones to talk to Alexa without the need of a remote. If for some other reason you decide to use a remote, there is an IR transmitter. The gadget should have additional ports for Ethernet and more storage, but the information is scarce. Sources suggest prices for the midfield Fire TV of around $60-$80 while the cube might cost more than $100.
