GSMArena labs: enhanced compare tool

GSMArena labs: enhanced compare tool

You dont realize how complicated modern smartphones are until you try comparing two side by side. The avalanche of features can bury the true differences between them so weve improved our Compare page with a new mode. It shows only the differences between models, dimming the identical features. Looking at very similar phones to find the differences can be quite hard lets try the Samsung Galaxy flagship line for example. With the differences mode enabled, you can immediately spot that the Galaxy Note8 has a stylus and HDR10-enabled screen. The camera has 2x zoom and uses a slightly different sensor compared to the Galaxy S8 1/2.55m vs. 1/2.5m (a minor detail but it proves Samsung reworked the main camera module). Click the link below to jump straight to that comparison weve made the new mode easy to share. And notice that it plays well with versions, which is especially helpful when checking LTE bands missing bands will stick out like a sore thumb. Lets try the new iPhone generation next. The iPhone X is built around a stainless steel frame, not aluminum like the iPhone 8 duo. And it uses a Super AMOLED screen with Dolby Vision/HDR10 support. The glass is not the usual ion-strengthened pane either. Finally, lets try some very different phones. They differ quite a bit, but you can still tell that the HTC U11+ has a microSD slot while the Pixel 2 XL does not. Both have use Gorilla Glass and aluminum, but the Pixels back is only partially covered in glass. Go ahead and try comparing your phone against others. Keep in mind that the differences mode is still in beta and may have a few rough edges. You can report any issues in the comments here and be sure well work to make it better. Now might be a good time to mention that we also added a chipset field to our tool recently. It should makes it easier for you to find a phone with the right balance of performance and power efficiency. Plus, chipsets are important for the custom ROM crowd as some are better-supported than others. Any feedback on that will be welcome too!

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018), A8+ (2018), and LG K10 (2018) to be announced at CES in January

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018), A8+ (2018), and LG K10 (2018) to be announced at CES in January

Samsung's much leaked and are going to be unveiled at CES, according to a new rumor out of South Korea. LG won't let Samsung have the whole spotlight to itself though, as it also plans to announce the K10 (2018) on the same occasion. The A8 duo for 2018 will come with 18:9 Infinity Displays and very small bezels. The A8+'s screen will be 6 in size, while the A8 will settle for 5.5. They will ship with Bixby Home and Bixby Remind, at least in Korea, but will not have Bixby Voice installed (or a Bixby button). You will get 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 16 MP main camera, a 16 MP + 8 MP dual selfie shooter, as well as a 3,500 mAh battery if you go for the bigger model. Both handsets will support Samsung Pay and will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headset jack. Split-screen multitasking is in, of course, as well as 'Pop-Up View' that will let you see more than two apps at the same time. They will be out in Korea in mid-January, with other markets presumably getting them at around the same time or soon afterwards. LG will launch the successor to this year's , which is said to be thinner than that model and boast a 5.3-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 13 MP main camera, and a 5 MP selfie snapper. A 3,000 mAh battery will keep the lights on. The new K10 will have an FM radio, and will be released in Korea at the end of next month. The and are most likely to be introduced after February, this report goes on to claim. Apparently, Sony aims to reveal its first bezel-less smartphone at MWC 2018, where Huawei might also present the P11 series.

Samsung patents foldable dual screen phone with focus on gaming

Samsung patents foldable dual screen phone with focus on gaming

Foldable dual screen phones seem like a solution in search of a problem. Samsung patents reveal what the company engineers believe might be the right problems to solve for a successful foldable phone. As , providing gaming controls on the second screen while gameplay runs on the other screen is the most obvious solution its the Nintendo 3DS, but reborn as an Android phone. The patents also talk about using a stylus the S Pen presumably. Graphics artists often draw on a stylus-enabled tablet that is a screen having a separate screen means you dont cover up the artwork with your hand or stylus. This is especially important when you have a small surface to work with (like, say, on a phone). Each half of the phone also has its own camera and speaker, which may enable other uses. The rumor mill has been telling stories about the Galaxy X phone and despite leaks and patents, there is still no official word on when the phone may launch. (in Dutch)

Samsung Galaxy Note8 X 99 AVANT limited edition artsy phone goes on sale

Samsung Galaxy Note8 X 99 AVANT limited edition artsy phone goes on sale

Can phones be art? The X 99 AVANT certainly tries. Its a very limited run of just 99 units (hence the name) and feature the exclusive artwork of Han Seung-Woo. You get a tiger-themed case (with the artists signature on the inside) so that you dont have to choose between keeping your phone safe and covering up the artwork. You also get a separate print (69 x 45cm in size) you can hang at home. Each of the 99 units has a unique 8-digit number to attest to its authenticity. Other than that, the phone is a standard Galaxy Note8 (midnight black) with 256GB of storage. It costs KRW 1,991,000 ($1,830/1550) and as of right now there are still units available. The X 99 AVANT is currently exclusive to Korea and with just 99 units we dont think that will change. You can hit the Source link if youre interested in buying a phone-shaped piece of art. |
