New OnePlus 5 update fixes KRACK security issue


OnePlus has started pushing out a new update to the . Arriving as OxygenOS 4.5.14, the update brings along a bunch of changes, including fix for the Wi-Fi WPA2 security issue (also known as the KRACK vulnerability). Other changes include support for Airtel VoLTE in India and Band 66 of Freedom in Canada. In addition, there are also some battery usage-related as well as GPS-related optimizations. Finally, some usual bug fixes are included as well.

The OPPO R11s offers a high performance mode for gaming at 60fps on the Snapdragon 660 CPU. Pair that with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage for storing plenty of games, music, and video. The R11s has a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution at 2,160 x 1080 pixels, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Over the screen is OPPOs 20MP selfie camera with ai-based beautification. The main camera carries over from the OPPO R11: a dual camera system, combining a 16MP camera and 20MP one. Both cameras have f/1.7 apertures. The OPPO R11s will be available starting November 10 in China in three color options: Red, Black, and Champagne. The refreshed OPPO R11s will cost CNY 2,999 for the Black and Champagne models while the Red paint job is available for a CNY 200 premium at CNY 3,199.

Today the chip producer has filed a new lawsuit against the iPhone maker, and this one could be quite bad for Apple if Qualcomm's allegations are proved truthful. Qualcomm says Apple exercised its commercial leverage to demand unprecedented access to its very valuable and highly confidential software, including source code. We're talking modem firmware, by the way Apple has been buying mobile data modems from Qualcomm for years. With the , however, the company has also started to use Intel modems for some batches. Intel is important in this new lawsuit, because what Apple apparently did with that information it got from Qualcomm regarding its modem firmware is share it with Intel one of Qualcomm's biggest competitors. Here's the most important snippet from the filing: If these allegations are proven to be true, Apple will probably have to pay Qualcomm a big amount of cash for the transgression. The chip producer says the smartphone maker failed to abide by the terms of its software license, and thus it's suing for breach of contract. It also claims that Apple isn't allowing an audit to review how it's handling the software, an obligation that is included in the contract between the two companies. Xiaomi had an event today in India where two phones were introduced within a new smartphone series the Xiaomi and the . Both phones might be part of new series, but they are already familiar. The phones are the global versions of the Redmi Note 5A Prime and the Redmi Note 5A, released in September in China. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 has a 5.5 LCD with Full HD resolution and a Snapdragon 435 chipset with an octa-core CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz. There are two memory options 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage or 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. The phone runs MIUI 8 on Android Nougat 7.0, but it should get MIUI 9 by the end of the year. Xiaomi spent plenty of time at the event talking up the selfie camera. It has a 16 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 76-degree lens, paired with an LED flash. The camera on the back actually has a lower-resolution 13 MP sensor. The phone comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back as well as a trio of card slots so two nano SIMs and a microSD can be accommodated at the same time. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will go for INR8,999 ($140), while the more premium 4GB/64GB option is INR10,999 ($170). The latter runs HTC's UI overlay on top of Android 7.1 Nougat, has Amazon Alexa pre-installed alongside Google Assistant, and will be available in North America. And the update to Oreo is supposedly arriving within 30 days. The Android One variant is coming to the rest of the world running pure, unadulterated Android 8.0 Oreo from day one. Aside from that, the two models are almost identical. Regardless of where you buy your U11 life, you're getting a 5.2-inch 1080p Super LCD and an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance (submersion in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes). The handset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, aided by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage in North America. Elsewhere you'll either get that or 4/64GB. Storage expansion through microSD cards is supported in all cases. The rear camera is a 16 MP f/2.0 unit with 4K video recording, phase detection autofocus, and an LED flash. On the front there's another 16 MP f/2.0 sensor, but this one only shoots video in 1080p. The U11 life supports Cat.11 LTE globally, with peak download speeds of 600Mbps, and uploads of up to 75Mbps. In North America you get Cat.9 (downloads up to 450Mbps and uploads up to 50Mbps). The phone's 2,600 mAh battery charges through a USB Type-C port, and there's Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou on board. No 3.5mm headset jack though. A fingerprint sensor is below the screen. Like the other U-series devices before it, this one also comes with the liquid surface design. The back is a highly durable acrylic glass that is crafted using a method of layering highly-refractive precious minerals. This results in colors that change whenever you move the phone, even just a little bit. Edge Sense, which lets you squeeze the phone in order to perform specific actions, is built into the U11 life as well. HTC USonic earbuds are in the box. The handset's dimensions are 149.09 x 72.9 x 8.1 mm, and it weighs 142g. The Sense version is available in the US today, in Sapphire Blue, for $349. T-Mobile will be the exclusive carrier partner for the U11 life stateside, with sales beginning at the magenta company tomorrow. The phone is out in Canada too, for CAD 449. The Android One iteration will be offered in an additional hue Brilliant Black, but pricing and availability for that one will be confirmed market by market.
